GHSA is a homeschooling support group led by conservative Christians, with a diverse group of members from other faiths, within our membership guidelines.

GHSA was first formed in the late 1980’s, with monthly meetings first taking place in various homes. The first Curriculum Fair was held at Ypao Beach, with other events held at a few Christian churches on island. Throughout the years, GHSA has grown to an average of over 150 families, including a few families off-island. A good representation of the military community, federal hires and other homeschooling groups can be found in our group.

Our purpose is to provide the support and guidance necessary to effectively homeschool in accordance with Guam’s public law and within the guidelines of our Statement of Faith, Statement of Purpose and Code of Conduct.

Monthly, seasonal and annual events and programs, as well as special classes are made possible through the efforts of volunteer members and leaders.  These events provide the opportunity for educational excellence, character development and socialization skills that bring about a well-balanced, wholesome and enjoyable homeschooling experience.

Members communicate through a Yahoo Groups email forum. It is through this email forum that details are shared for events such as our monthly support group meeting and field trips, annual events (Curriculum Fair, Geography/Art/Science Fair, Kick-off Picnic and Chamorro Day), seasonal events (Academic Challenge Bowl, Scripps Howard Spelling Bee, Math Olympiad and Math Counts), and miscellaneous educational classes, physical education and sports programs and related activities. Scholastic book orders are taken monthly.

Monthly support group meetings are held every 3rd Thursday from 2-4pm at Tamuning Christian Fellowship, Fellowship Hall. A minimal fee of $2 is collected from each family to help with facility expenses. Our meeting agenda varies each month, consisting of guest speakers with years of experience and success in homeschooling. There are topical issues discussed such as organization, meal planning, curriculum reviews, child rearing, teaching special needs children, teaching multi-age levels, planning meetings, and the list goes on and on, to include fun fellowship gatherings for both parents and children alike!

Take Marine Drive to the light at Pizza Hut in Tamuning (just south of the ITC intersection). This is also the road that takes you to the hospital. Tamuning Christian Fellowship is about a half mile on the left, just before the first traffic light at the Oka Payless, and just after the Onward Beach Resort.
